American Cancer Society Cowford Ball

WHAT: The Cowford Ball 2008 is the largest single fundraising event for the American Cancer Society in North Florida.  The event features gourmet western fare, live and silent auctions, midway games, entertainment and dancing.    

THEME:  Back in the Saddle Again”  

WHERE: The Exhibition Halls at the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fairgrounds 

WHEN:   Saturday, April 5, 2008 beginning at 6:30 p.m.   

COST PER PERSON: Diamond Spur Patron $750; Golden Spur Patron  $500; Silver Spur Patron $300; Trailblazers $250; Pioneers (age 35 & under) $125.   

WHAT’S NEW FOR THE 2008 COWFORD BALL:  ˜Returning to its western roots˜Jerry Jeff Walker, a pivotal figure in Texas music and a nationally-ranked country artist˜Cowboy Mike Wooldridge, Guinness World Record-holder for whip cracking˜Shane O’Dazier Band˜Gene Nordan, old time piano player ˜Vintage saddle bar stools˜”Snakebite” specialty drink ˜Rolex Watch Chance Drawing – Take a chance to win a Men’s Rolex GMT watch for $50.  ˜High Rollers Silent Auction – This silent auction will have extravagant items for cowboys and cowgirls with discriminating taste.˜”Blazing Saddles” men’s outhouse (men’s restroom)˜Miss Betsy’s Boarding House (ladies restroom) 

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:  ˜Live and silent auctions˜Midway games and gaming tables˜Cowford RosesFor $25 each, purchase a Cowford Rose in honor or memory of those who have courageously fought the battle against cancer.  An acknowledgement card will be sent to the honoree or to their family.  Individuals are encouraged to wear the rose throughout the evening in honor or memory of their loved ones.˜Gourmet Chow Line˜REALTOR Baskets – Exquisite gift baskets created by area Realtors are available to the highest bidder. ˜Kids Art Project – the ABC’s of Hope – letters painted by area pediatric cancer patients.

SPECIFIC DONATIONS: The Cowford Ball will fund the American Cancer Society’s cancer research programs, and R.O.C.K. (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids) programs to help pediatric oncology patients and their families (including R.O.C.K. Camp, Families R.O.C.K. Weekend and college scholarships).
